Obituary for E.J. Elmer Vogel
E.J. "ELMER" VOGEL, 87, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Eagle Point Nursing Home in Clinton, IA. Elmer was born September 12, 1922 in Fulton, IL, to Jacob and Alice (Zeeryp) Vogel. He was educated in the Fulton grade schools and graduated from Fulton High School. He married Vivian A. Welch on November 7, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. He served in the US Army during WWII as a combat engineer. Elmer was first employed by CB&Q Railroad and later by the former Clinton Corn Processing Co in Clinton, IA, from which he retired. Following retirement he worked for Agri-King in Fulton, IL. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton and served as a deacon and elder. He was also active with the church"s Sunday school. Elmer enjoyed coin collecting and watching baseball games, especially the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Vivian; one son, Martin K. (Judith) Vogel of Ankeny, IA; four grandchildren, Amy (Eugene) Wagner, Aaron (Erin) Vogel, Amanda (Craig) Robinson, Alyssa Vogel; three great grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Wagner, Alice Caroline Vogel. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Decker, Tena Prins, Jennie Kraft, Alice Bierman; five brothers, Harry, Sikka, David, John and Martin Vogel.
