Obituary for Dwayne Schipper
DWAYNE "DEWEY" SCHIPPER, 65, of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at home. Dwayne was born November 13, 1944, to Eugene J. and Gertrude U. (Medenblik) Schipper, in Clinton, IA. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and graduated from Fulton High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He married Candis K. Henley on July 14, 1978 in Rockton, IL. He was employed by General Electric in Morrison, IL for 35 years, and was a graduate of their Manufacturing Apprentice Training Program. He retired in 2000. Dwayne was a member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton, where he served as a deacon, elder, and ran the sound system for the last 10 years. He also helped with the Fulton Steamer Football Breakfasts at the church. He ran the chains at the Steamer Football games for 20 years and served as president of the Athletic Boosters. He was a member of the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years, and served on the Zoning Board and the Township Board for Fulton Township. He also was a member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402 and was part of the "Gentleman"s" Coffee Club. Dwayne enjoyed woodworking, washing his truck and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Candie; one daughter, Amy (Shane) Sikkema of Fulton; two sons, Steven (Cristen) Schipper of Des Moines, IA, Brian Schipper of Winter Park, CO; five grandchildren, Tyler and Taryn Sikkema, Ross Vasquez and Ava Schipper, Macey Schipper; one sister, Joy (Warren) Stuart of Fulton; one brother, Kevin (Jackie Damhoff) Schipper of Fulton; one sister-in-law, Kathy Schipper of Fort Wayne, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale Schipper.
