Obituary for Douglas L. Meyer
DOUGLAS L. MEYER, 65, of 9043 Bunker Hill Road, Morrison, IL, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. Doug was born March 7, 1945 in Morrison, IL, to Lester "Tex" C. and D. Marie (Likes) Meyer. He was educated in the Fenton Grade School in Fenton, IL and was a 1963 graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. Doug was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he completed the Electricians "A" School. Doug married Ruth E. Oudekerk on September 12, 1971 in Fenton, IL. As a youth, Doug worked at the Fenton Elevator with his father. He was employed as an Electrical Maintenance Foreman at the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Plant (Exelon) from 1970 until retiring in 1999. Following retirement, he worked parttime at Amish Specialities in Rockford, IL, Tegeler Amish Furniture in Morrison, IL and Stichter Excavating in Fenton, IL. Doug was an active member of the Fenton United Methodist Church and the Clinton, IA YMCA. He enjoyed biking, trains, gardening, fixing, and tinkering with anything that needed to be fixed. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching the movie "How to Train Your Dragon". Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Pamela (Larry) Eads of Fenton, IL; four grandchildren, Noah, Abigail, Sophia, and Caleb Eads; and one brother, Larry (Gail) Meyer of East Lansing, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lois Graham.
