Obituary for Dorothy Mae Stone
DOROTHY MAE STONE, 101, of Fulton, IL, died Monday, August 17, 2020, at Harbor Crest Home in Fulton, IL.
At her request, her body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for Medical Science Study. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting the family. Interment of cremains will take place at Garden Plain Cemetery in rural Fulton, IL.
Dorothy was born August 6, 1919, in Newton Township, IL, to Everett and Velma (Reynolds) Ege. She was educated in the rural Whiteside Country grade schools and was a graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. She graduated also from Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL and Marycrest College in Davenport, IA. Dorothy married Robert D. Stone on March 22, 1942, in Garden Plain, IL. He died September 11, 2012. Dorothy was first employed as a teacher in the Crouch and Byers schools of rural Whiteside County. Later she continued her teaching career in the Albany and Garden Plain Grade Schools and most recently she was an elementary school teacher for the Riverbend School District for 14 years retiring in 1979. Dorothy was a member of the Garden Plain Presbyterian Church in rural Fulton, IL, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Natural Area Guardians “N.A.G.” of Whiteside County. She enjoyed antiquing, camping, and was an avid reader.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Bob (Pamela Nelson) Stone of Plano, IL; two grandchildren, Meghan (Kyle) Dean of St. Charles, IL, and Brady (Joni) Stone of Hamden, CT; three step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, Vivienne Dean; Jaden, Tyler, and Leila Mae Stone; one sister in law Barbara Ege; one brother in law, Carl Romano; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Stone; three sisters, Mervyn Romano, Marian Finnicum and Bernice Scharfenberg; two brothers, Bill Ege and Robert Ege in infancy.
