Another wonderful hardworking person is now at rest. Dorothy "Burden" Sharp went home to be with the Lord, on March 16, 2012.Mom was born on 11/7/1924, the daughter of James A. and Geneva Dye. They moved from Iowa in her very early years to the Albany, IL area where she grew up and met John D. "Red" Burden. They were married in Albany on Dec. 30, 1944. Five sons were born to the two of them, two of the boys were stillborn, James V, John M, and then George Joseph "Joe" came along. Red and Dorothy farmed in the rural Albany area for their entire lives, until Red passed away in the summer of 1980. Dorothy moved off of the family farm that summer into Albany, She met Harold Sharp and were later united in marriage and spent 23 years together. Harold took our mother all over the world in their 23 years together. They loved to travel and spent a lot of time doing so. Mom was a truly unique and hardworking lady, not only did she work on the farm, but also worked 30 plus years at General Electric Company in Morrison, IL, always on 2nd shift. She made sure her sons knew what it was like to cook, do laundry, dishes and clean the house. She is survived by her three sons, James and June Burden of rural Erie, IL, Joe Burden of Muscatine, IA, John and Patty Burden of Surprise, AZ, one step son, Gerald Sharp of Moline, IL and two step daughters, Jean and Louis Haas of Bettendorf, IA and Marilyn and Steven Urbaniak of Silvis, IL. fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
