Obituary for Doris L. Butcher
DORIS L. BUTCHER, 93, of Four Seasons Living Center in Morrison, IL died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the center. Doris was born on November 23, 1914 in Macomb, IL to Guy E. and Madellon P. (Adams) Sowers. She graduated from Western Academy and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. She married Scott A. Butcher on October 21, 1938 in Monmouth, IL. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1989. Doris was first employed as an elementary school teacher near Macomb, before moving to Morrison in 1941. Doris later taught in the Round Grove School and the Morrison Junior High School until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison, IL, the church"s Mariner"s Group and had served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the P.E.O., the League of Women Voters, and W.S.C.S. Survivors include two daughters, Annette (James) Brandner of Andover, MN and Sue (Larry) Wiersema of Morrison, IL; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Aline) Wiersema, Kristen Downing, Michael (Kimberly) Brandner, Douglas (Renee) Brandner; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Leone Patrick of Macomb, IL and Ruth (Milo) Mundorff of Sterling, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, James K. Wiersema; one sister, Lucille Reno; and one brother, Kenith Sowers.
