Obituary for Donna Joy Combs
DONNA JOY COMBS, 92, of Prophetstown, IL, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2023, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2023 at the Prophetstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Joey Garcea officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service, starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.
Donna was born in Prophetstown, on December 13, 1930, the daughter of Harley and Ellenor Church. She was a graduate of Prophetstown High School, class of 1949. Donna was a member of the First Congregational Church. She drove school bus for Portland Schools and worked for many years at Scott’s Grocery Store. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and camping with her family.
Donna married Herbert Combs Jr. on November 23, 1949. Together they enjoyed being members of the Tri-City Trailriders, the 100 – mile rides, and spending time playing cards and square dancing. She cherished time with her children and grandchildren, who fondly referred to her as “Grandma Horsey”.
Survivors include her sons Greg (Karen) Combs and Doug (Karolye) Combs; her daughters, Beth (Mike) Olinger and Gina (David) Anderson; 11 grandchildren; 24 great – grandchildren; 1 great- great grandchild; and sister Patricia Sonnenberg.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; one brother Melvin Church; one sister Darlene Coughlen; and the love of her life, Herb.
A memorial to Rock River Hospice and Home has been established.
