Obituary for Donald E. Houzenga
DONALD E. HOUZENGA, 82, of 1219 - 9th Ave., Fulton, IL, died Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL. Don was born November 12, 1925, in Clinton, IA, to Jabbes and Minnie (Schaver) Houzenga. He attended the Excelsior Christian Grade School in Fulton, and graduated from Fulton High School in 1943. He married Dorothy L. VanVuren on June 20, 1947 in Fulton. He drove trucks for Jule Medenblik in Garden Plain, IL for 13 years. He then was employed with Drives, Inc. in Fulton as a tool and die maker and a foreman, retiring in 1989. He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, were he served as a deacon and was involved in the Men"s Bible Study. He was a former member of the Fulton Fire Department for 15 years. Don enjoyed family gatherings and also liked gardening. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Sally Houzenga of Fulton; two sons, Keith (Vicki) Houzenga of Fulton, and Dale (Toni) Houzenga of DeSoto, MO; three grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Houzenga, Stacy (Eric) Palmer and Jason Houzenga; one step grandson, Jeremy (Michele) Benoit; two great grandchildren, Braylon and Delanie Palmer. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Kay Houzenga; one sister, Doris Wehrmeyer.
