Obituary for Delbert H. Slaymaker
DELBERT H. SLAYMAKER, 97, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Friday, October 22, 2010 at the nursing home. Delbert was born May 16, 1913 in Erie, IL, to George L. and Hattie (Tucker) Slaymaker. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. He married Pearle M. Graham on March 24, 1936 in Fenton, IL. She died June 12, 1999. Delbert was engaged in farming in the rural Erie/Albany, IL areas his entire life. He served as Newton Township Road Commissioner and also sold PAG seed corn for many years. Delbert was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church in Albany, IL and served in many different aspects of the church"s ministry. He had also served on the Erie High School Board. During his early years, he enjoyed horseback riding. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Kenny) Venhuizen of Morrison, IL; one son, James D. Slaymaker of Sterling, IL; two grandchildren, Tom (Amy) Venhuizen and Kimberly King; four great grandchildren, Jennifer (Craig) VanderMolen, Brad Venhuizen, Kendra and Chelsea King. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearle; one daughter, Jane Ann Slaymaker in infancy; one granddaughter, Virginia Ann Venhuizen; and one sister, Phyllis Reedy.
