Obituary for David Ivan Carroll
DAVID IVAN CARROLL, 83, of Clinton, IA, died Friday, February 26, 2021, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA.
A private family visitation will be held at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home followed by a private family graveside service at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL. Ken Renkes will officiate. A memorial to the Morrison United Methodist Church has been established.
David was born January 2, 1938, in Sterling, IL, to Ivan and Margaret Elizabeth (Milnes) Carroll. He was educated in the Thomson grade schools and was a 1956 graduate of Morrison High School where he was the homecoming king. David served in the U.S. Army. He married Sally A. Onken on March 16, 1958, in Morrison. David first served a five year apprenticeship for plumbing under Harry Traum before entering the military. In 1963, he went to work for Voss Brothers Plumbing in Clinton retiring in 2000 after 37 years of employment. David was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 25 in Rock Island, IL. David was a Scout leader and baseball coach. He also coached AAU girls and boys basketball. He enjoyed all sports especially watching his grandsons play soccer and baseball and his granddaughter perform. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sally; two daughters, Lynn (Todd) Holverson and Lisa (Curt) Lewis both of Cedar Rapids, IA; two sons, Troy and Erick Carroll both of Clinton, IA; seven grandchildren, Ethan (Alli Hampton) Holverson, Lauren Holverson, Mateaus Lewis, Gavin Lewis, Josh Carroll, Derick Carroll, and Brittany Carroll; one brother, Terry (Ginny) Carroll of Galena, IL; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Irene Ericson of Hammond, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Nickolas.
