Obituary for D.C. Bear Richardson
D.C. "BEAR" RICHARDSON, 63, of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL from heart complications after an extended illness. Bear was born August 10, 1942, in Detroit, MI, to Hugh and Della (Otatti) Richardson. He attended Detroit schools. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He lived in Sterling, IL in the 1960"s, moving to Clinton, IA in the 1980"s and then to Fulton, IL 15 years ago. He was the owner-operator of Kodiak Black Hills Gold Shop and Kodiak Roofing in Clinton, and most recently, Artistic Rebellion Tattoo Parlor in Clinton. He was a lifelong member of ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) of Iowa and ABATE of Illinois and Wisconsin. He established the District 21 ABATE Chapter in Iowa and part of Illinois, and served as the district"s coordinator. He was instrumental in organizing the Toys for Tots program throughout Clinton and Jackson Counties in IA and a portion of Whiteside County in IL. He was active in starting Fulton"s annual Bike Blessing more than 12 years ago. He was a member of HOG (Harley-Davidson Owners Group) and Motorcycle Riders Foundation and served as a motorcycle driving instructor. He was a member of the American Legion of IL, the National Rifle Association and AARP. He was a member of the Parachute Club of America in Rock Falls, IL, the Blackhawk Skydivers of Sterling / Rock Falls, and had made many exhibition jumps. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling the open road on his motorcycle and helping others. Surviving are his life partner and soul-mate, Julie Meiners; three daughters, Tina Richardson of Maquoketa, IA, Toni (Mrs. Phillip) Howes of Clinton, IA, and Tanya Richardson of New Haven, MI; two sons, Tom (Mandy) Richardson of Sandwich, IL and Tim (Miranda) Richardson of Clinton, IA; two stepsons, Matthew and Jacob Meiners of Jacksonville, FL; twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Everett Brown; one sister, Rita Day; one brother, Tom Richardson.
