Obituary for Cynthia R. (Smith) VanderLeest
CYNTHIA R. (SMITH) VANDERLEEST, 64, of Morrison, IL, died Sunday, February 6, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center in Clinton, IA.
Her funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at River Church in Clinton with Pastor Justin Vogel officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. Memorials have been established.
Cynthia was born March 23, 1957, in Morrison, IL, to Wesley C. “Smitty” and Arlene (Rick) Smith. She graduated from Morrison High School in 1975. She married Jerry VanderLeest on April 18, 2008, in Morrison. Cindy began working at General Electric in 1976 and retired in 2010. She later cleaned houses for many families and businesses in the area. She was formerly a member of Morrison Presbyterian Church and currently a member of River Church in Clinton where she was very active in her prayer and life groups. She was also a member of the GEM club. Cindy was an avid garage-saler and deal seeker. She and Jerry enjoyed camping and traveling. She liked tending to her flower gardens and hosting holiday gatherings at their home. Cindy was most proud of her church family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry; one daughter, Janae (Kyle) Humlick of Clinton, IA; one son, Jeremy Wagner of Morrison; two step-daughters, Angie (Matthew) Lyons of Sterling, IL and Jamie (Tim) Felten of Craig, CO; fourteen grandchildren, Jace, Jaycie, Jacob and Jaylie Wagner, Ashton Nissen, Tony Ruby, Drake Ruby, Gavin Carstens and Eastin Stodden, Cade, Cael and Caylee Lyons, and Rylie and Jerik Felten; mother, Arlene (Dennis) Burkholder of Morrison; one sister, Christine Smith-Proud of Morrison; one brother, Dale (Mary) Smith of Sterling, IL; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wesley “Smitty” Smith.
