Obituary for Carrie M. Champion
CARRIE M. CHAMPION, 78, of Clinton, IA formerly of Fulton, IL, died Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, IA. Carrie was born March 23, 1932 in Ashby, AL to W.C. and Audie Mae (Woodham) Watts. She was educated in the West Blockton, AL grade schools. Carrie married John H. Champion on August 26, 1949 in Tulahoma, TN. He died January 4, 1983. She was employed at Wendy"s Restaurant in Clinton, where she was Employee of the Year for many years. She was also a homemaker. Carrie was a member of the Fulton Assembly of God Church in Fulton and also volunteered at the Salvation Army in Clinton, assisting with gift baskets for Christmas. Carrie loved to read and crochet. Survivors include four daughters, Janice (Robert) Stevens of Tavares, FL; Barbara (Sherwood) Elliott, Catherine McCullough, and Debra Shepard all of Clinton, IA; three sons, John A. (Doris) Champion of Shelbyville, TN; James C. Champion of Umatilla, FL; and David Champion of Clinton, IA; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-two great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Clark of Centerville, AL and one brother, Sherman Watts of Centerville, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; one daughter, Lanice Ann Champion in infancy; two sons, Alton H. Champion and Larry Champion; one great grandson, Christopher Waylon Smith; three sisters, and one brother.
