Obituary for Carlene B. Bechtel
CARLENE B. BECHTEL, 90, of 22939 Hillside Road, Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL. Carlene was born May 22, 1920 in Morrison, IL, to Arthur C. and Hilda B. (Lewis) McKee. She was educated in the Crouch Grade School of rural Whiteside County and was a 1938 graduate of Morrison High School. Carlene married Everett M. Bechtel on October 10, 1940 in Clinton, IA. He died December 7, 1995. Carlene, along with her late husband Everett, farmed in the Ustick Township area during a time when horses were used and there was no electricity. Carlene was a member of the Whiteside County Home Extension. She enjoyed playing the organ for special events, playing cards, the company of neighbors, group suppers, berry picking, canning fruits and vegetables, and was passionate about flower and vegetable gardening. Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie (Doug) Bush of Morrison, IL; one son, Gary (Pat) Bechtel of Morrison, IL; four grandchildren, Barbara Bechtel, Donna (Terry) Balk, Crystal (Joe) Screnock, and Charme (Dr. Tom) Millard; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; one granddaughter, Paula K. Bechtel; and one sister, Doris Wade.
