Obituary for Butch Wiersema, Sr.
BUTCH WIERSEMA, SR., 77, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at MercyOne Clinton Medical Center in Clinton, IA.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Lott, pastor of First Baptist Church in Clinton, IA, officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll, IL. A memorial has been established.
Butch was born June 10, 1945, in Chadwick, IL, to Harvey and Christine (Houzenga) Wiersema. Butch was educated in the rural Carroll County grade school and attended Chadwick High School. He married Carol A. Traum on June 7, 1963, in Mt. Carroll. He was employed for over 40 years at J. T. Cullen Company in Fulton, retiring in 2011. He enjoyed drag racing and being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. Butch’s greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; one daughter, Celeste (Michael) Meador of Freeport, IL; two sons, Bernie (Janet) Wiersema of Chadwick, IL and Brett Wiersema of Fulton, IL; six grandchildren, Susan (Drew) Boehler, Kurt (Brooke) Woodinmiller, Katelyn (Trent) Gebhardt, Andrew (Rachel Bielema) Wiersema, Nora Wiersema and Lucy Wiersema; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathy (Jim) VanZuiden of Fulton, IL; one brother, Larry (Kathy) Wiersema of Fulton, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Esther Gann; one brother, Gerald Wiersema.
