Obituary for Burton F. Shambaugh
BURTON F. SHAMBAUGH, 92, of 413 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL, died Friday, February 24, 2012 at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison, IL. Burton was born July 13, 1919 in Morrison, IL to Glenn and Beulah (Finnicum) Shambaugh. He was educated in the Morrison Grade Schools and was a 1938 graduate of Morrison High School. Burton was a veteran of World War II where he served as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy, 38th Battalion. He married Hazel Teach on September 19, 1940. He later married Nan (Crete) Ridley on March 20, 1975 in Morrison, IL. Burton was employed as a union millwright with the Carpenters and Joiners Union Local #2158 in Bettendorf, IA, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Morrison Dunlap Lodge #321 AF & AM, Shriners International, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Moline, and the Shriners Wheel Horse Pastrol. He was a member of the Morrison VFW #8281 and was a member of the Morrison Fire Department for 10 years. He was inducted into the Morrison Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. He enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Nan; one daughter, Jane (Jim) Phillips of Moline, IL; two sons, Walter (Kathy) Shambaugh of Sterling, IL and Robert (Nancy) Shambaugh of Morrison, IL; two step sons, James (Jeanne) Ridley of Morrison, IL and Thomas Ridley of Vancouver, WA; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren, two nieces, Nancy (Richard) Glazier and Sally (Arlyn) Hayen both of Morrison. He was preceded in death by his parents; two step sons, Gene and Richard Ridley; one sister in infancy; and one brother, Louis Shambaugh.
