Arlyn was born January 7, 1946 in Morrison, IL to Charles and Kathryn (Pessman) Huizenga. He graduated from Thomson High School – Thomson, IL – in 1964. On March 20, 1998 he married Carolyn (Drolema) Houzenga in Nashua, IA. Arlyn worked for the Morrison Farmer’s Elevator for many years, and retired from the maintenance department at the Alverno in Clinton, IA. He was a member of the Spring Valley Reformed Church all his life, and had served on several committees. Arlyn’s passion was woodworking, carpentry and being a handy-man. He also enjoyed watching baseball, football, and watching westerns. He made a cradle for each of his children’s first-born, as well as wooden treasures each Christmas. Arlyn was a wealth of knowledge for Whiteside County residents and their family ties. He put a lot of love and work into renovating the barn on Carolyn’s family farm, making it the perfect place to make memories for all the “kids”. Above all, Arlyn enjoyed his family.
