Obituary for Anna Dykema
Anna (Noordt) Medema, Murphy, Dykema, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend went to be with her Lord on Wed., July 13, 2011 at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, Illinois. The funeral service will be held at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, Illinois on Monday, July 18, 2011. Friends and relatives are welcome at the church at 9:30 am to 11:00 on Monday for the visitation and the service will begin at 11:00 am. The Rev. Jerry Norman of the Ebenezer Reformed Church will officiate. A luncheon at the church will follow the service. Interment will be at the Springdale Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa at 2:00 pm. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison or the Mercy Hospice in Clinton.Anna was born May 7, 1917 in Fulton, Illinois to Claus and Grace (Poel) Noordt. She was educated in the Fulton Public schools. She married Alvin Medema in 1936 and divorced in 1957. She then was married to Cletus Murphy of Clinton until his death. Later she married Marvin Dykema and they resided in Morrison . Prior to her marriage, Anna was employed at the Patent Novelty Company in Fulton and during WWII she was employed at General Electric Co. in Morrison. For many years Anna was the manager of the Dottie Dunn Hat Shoppe in Clinton and later she worked at Nielsen"s Clearinghouse.Anna was a member of Dutch Reformed Churches all her life. The First Reformed Church in Fulton, the Community Reformed Church in Clinton and then Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison.Anna enjoyed entertaining and cooking holiday meals for family and friends. As hobbies, she enjoyed reading, needlework of many kinds and painting ceramics. She loved children; she was a Girl Scout leader and she was a volunteer in the Clinton Public Schools as a reading tutor for many years.Anna is survived by her husband, Marvin Dykema of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison and two daughters; Carol Medema Parker of San Diego, CA and Donna Medema Van Zuiden of Portland, OR. Other survivors include: Five grandchildren: Jerry Parker of Bonita, CA; Jon (Laura) Parker of Manhattan Beach, CA; Julie (Matt) Parker of Solana Beach, CA; Lisa Parker of Solana Beach, CA ;Stephanie Van Zuiden of Portland, OR. and six great-grandchildren; James Parker, Anna and Jill Parker, Jake Parker, Sarah and Noah Brown. Anna is also survived by five step-children: Cletus Murphy, Jr. of Clinton, Jill (Charles) Nissen of Camanche, Kathleen (Dean) Bealer of Fenton, Merrial Allison of Morrison, Brent (Charm) Dykema of Morrison. Surviving also are nine step-grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by two husbands: Alvin Medema and Cletus Murphy; one grandson, Christopher Van Zuiden; two sisters; Loretta (Noordt) Huizenga , and Gladys (Noordt) Balk.Anna"s love for and limitless devotion to her family were her purpose in life and the essence of her sweet personality. Throughout her lifetime, Anna took great pride in her family. She wished the very best for all and wanted each to achieve success in their lives whatever their choice of endeavors.Anna was called "Grandmother Sweetheart" by her grandchildren. Her sweet, gentle and loving spirit will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
