Obituary for Alvin "Alvie" Swearingen
ALVIN “ALVIE” SWEARINGEN, 80, of Chadwick, IL, died Monday, February 5, 2018, at Liberty Village Manor Court in Freeport, IL.

The funeral mass will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 12, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Morrison, IL. Rev. Father Slawomir Zimodro, Pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Rev. Father William R. Antillon, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo, IL, will co-officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with a 5:00 P.M. rosary service. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 12, 2018, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee, IL. A memorial has been established by the family.

Alvin was born June 1, 1937, in Kewanee, IL, to Russell D. and Frances (Jacobs) Swearingen. He was educated in the Kewanee grade schools and was a 1955 graduate of Kewanee High School. Alvie married Betty Spiegel on February 11, 1956, in Kewanee, IL. She died January 12, 1988. He later married Jane Feldman-Miller on November 25, 1989, in Morrison, IL. Alvie was a hog buyer for 43 years in the Chadwick area, enjoying his job. After retirement, he worked for Sewer Equipment Company in Chadwick. Alvin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Morrison where he was ordained as a deacon on October 20, 2001. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Alvin enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching baseball, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; three daughters, Cheryl (David) Schlagheck of Spring Valley, IL; Karan (Joel) Schneider of Deerfield, IL; and Debby (Steve) Clydesdale of Eldridge, IA; five sons, Alvin (Jean) Swearingen, Jr. of Hickory Hills, IL; Alan (Jill) Swearingen of Columbia, MO; Charles (Kellie) Swearingen of Pewaukee, WI; Kevin (Debbie) Miller and Mike Miller both of Chadwick, IL; nineteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie (John) Engel of Bettendorf, IA; three brothers, Wayne (Mary) Swearingen of Kewanee, IL; Donnie (Joyce) Swearingen of Andover, IL; and Kenny (Joanne) Swearingen of Honolulu, HI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; two daughters, Katherine Swearingen and Dr. Cynthia Radosevich; one grandson, Ben Schlagheck; one son, Keith Miller; and one brother, Russell D. Swearingen, Jr.
