Obituary for Almyra Montgomery Powell
ALMYRA Toodie MONTGOMERY POWELL, 90, of Bickford, Davenport, IA, formerly of Lyndon, IL, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Bickford.Almyra was born January 7, 1927, in Moline, IL, to Alfred and Myra (Maxfield) Butzer. She was a 1945 graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL and went on to graduate from IL State University in Bloomington-Normal  with a Masters Degree in Education. She married Thomas O. Montgomery on October 26, 1946 in Lyndon. He died January 15, 1964. She then married James Powell in 1974, in Peoria, IL. He died in 1992. Almyra was first employed as a secretary at the East Coloma School in Rock Falls, IL. She was then employed for over 20 years for the Morton School District in Morton, IL. She was a member of the Morton Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir, and she was a member of the Teachers Retirement Association. Almyra was a Girl Scout Leader and an avid painter. She enjoyed learning, continuing her education with many additional classes at Bradley University in Peoria, IL.Survivors include one daughter, Patti (David) Thompson of Prophetstown, IL; one son, Thomas (Marcia) Montgomery III of Hendersonville, NC; six grandchildren, Justin (Brooke) Thompson, Shelley (Tom) Church, Melanie (Damian) DeMay, Kathryn (Jon Carstens) Thompson, Thomas (Sabra) Montgomery IV, Tim (Maggie) Montgomery; seven great grandchildren; Kayla, Riley, Lincoln, Alec, Tyra, Chase, and Owen; one sister, Mrs. Byrdie Kit Frew of Columbia, MO; many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas and James; two sisters, Ruth Blakely and Betty Butzer.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL OFFICIATING: Chaplain Karl Roberts, Chaplain at the Bickford in Davenport, IA VISITATION: 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service, March 18, 2017 at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown INTERMENT: Lyndon Township Cemetery - Lyndon, IL.
