Obituary for Allen Poel
ALLEN POEL, 91, of Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL died Friday, June 19, 2009 at the nursing home. Allen was born on March 10, 1918 in Garden Plain, IL to Claus and Bessie (Prins) Poel. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools. He married Dorothy Buikema on February 22, 1940 in Fulton, IL. Allen engaged in farming in the rural Fulton area from 1940 " 1960. He was also employed by the former Agrico Company in Fulton, IL. He later worked as a supervisor for Drives, Inc. in Fulton, IL for 22 years until retiring in 1983. Allen was a member of First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL and was active in Men"s Brotherhood as well as the church choir. He also served as an Elder and a Deacon. Allen was a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. Memorials have been established to Lions of Illinois Foundation " Macular Degeneration and American Cancer Society. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Marilyn (Arnold) Huizenga of Fulton, IL; one son, Eugene Poel of Fulton, IL; six grandchildren, Jane (Jerry) Lewis, Gary (Dawn) Huizenga, Tom Huizenga, Matthew (Sheila) Huizenga, Kim (Paul) Mehring, Craig (Jennifer) Bush; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Bush; one sister, Tena Musch; and two brothers, Henry and Albert Poel.
