Obituary for Alfred W. Dykstra
ALFRED W. DYKSTRA, 88, of Clinton, IA, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at MercyOne Clinton in Clinton, IA.
His funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 9, 2020, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Pastor John Loyd, retired pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton. Memorials have been established to First Reformed Church and Parkinson’s Foundation.
Alfred was born November 25, 1931, in Thomson, IL, to Bernie and Minnie (Schipper) Dykstra. He was educated in the Thomson Grade School and was a 1949 graduate of York Community High School in Thomson. He married Donna M. DeWeerdt on March 25, 1966, in Fulton. Alfred farmed in the Thomson area for many years. He then was employed as a service man for Interstate Power Company. Alfred was a former member of Community Reformed Church in Clinton and a current member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton where he served as elder and deacon. He enjoyed bowling and having coffee with his retired friends at HyVee.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; two daughters, Donell (Neal) VanLoo of Mainville, OH and Robin (Jim) McKee of Fulton, IL; two sons, Rick (Linda) Dykstra of Lancaster, CA and Ron (Karin) Dykstra of Clinton, IA; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother, Bernard (Doris) Dykstra of Clinton, IA.
He was preceded in death by a sister in infancy; three brothers, Sebert Dykstra and twin brothers in infancy.
