Obituary for Alder Decker
ALDER DECKER, 98, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the nursing home. Alder was born February 6, 1907 in Warfum, Holland to Dewey and Clara (Wiersum) Decker. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools. He married Jennie Van Zuiden on February 12, 1932 in Erie, IL. He was engaged in farming in the rural Albany, IL area for 34 years, retiring in 1966. He then was employed by Brock Lumber, R.C. Smith Transportation/Scenic Stage Lines, Morrison High School and Peterson Drug Store all in Morrison, IL. Alder was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and has served as an usher for many years. He was a former member of Newton Zion Reformed Church in rural Erie, IL and had served there as a deacon and elder. He was a member of Whiteside County Farm Bureau and enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Jennie; one daughter, Jeanette (Mrs. John) Bielema of Hooppole, IL; one son, Dewey (Alberta) Decker of Erie, IL; nine grandchildren, Rodney (Karlene) Decker, Darrell Decker, David (Val) Decker, Randy (Lori) Decker, Arlyn (Melissa) Decker, Rusty Decker, Melinda (Mrs. Tom) Snowden, Laurie Church, and Brenda Cowan; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Haley Church and one sister, Ruby Decker.
