ERIC D. OTTENS, 23, of 9468 Rick Road, Morrison, IL, died Friday, March 17, 2006 in Dubuque County, IA as a result of an automobile accident.
Eric was born March 9, 1983, in Clinton, IA to Dennis M. and Susan K. (Byard) Ottens. He was educated in the Fulton, IL grade and high schools, graduating in 2001. He graduated from the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN with a BA Degree in Management in 2005. He currently, was working on his Masters Degree in Health Service Administration at the University of Evansville. During Eric’s high school basketball career, he was honorable mention on McDonald’s All-American team. He averaged 20.1 points and 10.2 rebounds as a senior, and shot 53 percent overall and 44 percent from three-point range. He finished his career with 1,596 points and 938 rebounds. He was Chicago Sun-Times, Associated Press, and IBCA First Team Class A as a senior; Three Rivers Conference Player of the Year for three straight years and Area Player of the Year as a senior. He was IHSA state finalist in the three-point and dunk competition. He led Fulton High School to a three year record of 75-14, and also made academic all-conference team. He lettered in track, football, and baseball in addition to four years of basketball. Eric averaged 6.0 points and 2.2 rebounds this season for the University of Evansville Purple Aces. He was redshirted in his freshman year and then played each of the next four years.
Suvivors include his parents, Dennis and Susan Ottens of Morrison, IL; one brother, Matt Ottens at home; two aunts, Chris (Mrs. Greg) Baker of Clinton, IA and Cheryl (Mrs. Glen) Sedig of Sterling, IL; five uncles, Richard (Linda) Byard of Eldridge, IA; Tracy Byard of Princeton, IA; Donald (Glenda) Ottens of Chadwick, IL; Arlyn (Sue) Ottens and Alan (Chris) Ottens both of Morrison, IL and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
