ROBERT M. SMITH, 84, of 1107 W. Main Street, Thomson, IL, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL. Robert was born September 10, 1925 in Mt. Carroll, IL, to Lloyd and Marian (Holland) Smith. He was educated in the rural Carroll County grade schools and was a graduate of Thomson High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Bob married Phyllis M. Muur on July 26, 1952 in Thomson, IL. She died July 6, 1997. Bob was employed by Drives, Inc. in Fulton, IL, for many years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton and served as elder and deacon. Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, bird watching, and working jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include two daughters, Myra (William) Harms of Grayslake, IL and Wanda Smith of Thomson, IL; two grandchildren, Jeremy Harms and Emily (Michael) Doran; two great grandsons, Ian and Grant Doran; two sisters, Mrs. Arlene Eslinger and Mrs. Geraldine Bealer both of Thomson, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis and a brother in infancy. Funeral Information
