James E. Sturgill

JAMES E. STURGILL, 96, of Aledo Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Aledo, IL, died Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the center.

Jim was born September 30, 1916, in Mountain City, TN, to Benjamin and Cora (Dollar) Sturgill. His first marriage was to Maxine Mack. His second marriage was to Jacqueline Murphy. His third marriage was to Bernadine R. Sippel-Ashpole on September 30, 1964, in Fairview Center, IL. She died May 21, 1999. Jim was first employed as a policeman in Aledo, IL. Later he became the Police Chief in Prophetstown, IL, and retired from the force in 1974. He was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown. Jim was an avid antique gas engine and tractor collector and restorer. He also enjoyed collecting Studebakers.

Survivors include three daughters, Rita Jo (Steve) Crick of Louisville, KY; Phyllis (Dean) Epperly of Wheaton, IL; and Lynn (Jim) Frost of Eustis, FL; one son, Doug Sturgill of Aledo, IL; one stepdaughter, Lynn (Rowan) Butts of Rock Falls, IL; one stepson, Ronald (Mary) Ashpole of Kewanee, IL; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Irene Negley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine; one sister, Wilma Gritten; one brother, Ferd Sturgill; two grandchildren, Gary Butts and Jason Race; one great-granddaughter in infancy, Novalea Paige Sturgill.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Leon United Methodist Church - Prophetstown, IL

OFFICIATING: Rev. Cheri Stewart - Pastor of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church - Prophetstown, IL

VISITATION: 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service, Friday, December 28, 2012 at Leon United Methodist Church - Prophetstown, IL


INTERMENT: Riverside Cemetery - Prophetstown, IL
