Russell K. "Russ" McCowan

RUSSELL K. “RUSS” MCCOWAN, 60, of 6725 Perkins Road in Prophetstown, IL died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at his home.

Russ was born on October 14, 1949 in Shenandoah, IA to Ralph E. and Lois V. (Allen) McCowan. He was educated in the Lyndon Grade School and was a graduate of Lyndon High School in Lyndon, IL. He married Joan S. Stone on February 14, 1971 in Prophetstown, IL. Russ was a self-employed contractor in the Prophetstown area. He retired in 2000 due to health reasons. After his retirement he was employed as a part time greens keeper at Deer Valley Golf Course. He was a member of Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown, IL. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, driving his 1955 Chevy, shooting pool and relaxing with his faithful dog “Cooper” by his side.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; one son, Ryan K. McCowan of Prophetstown, IL; two adopted sons, Fred McCowan and Tom McCowan; two sisters, Connie Grouchy of Freeport, IL and Diane (Larry) Sikkema of Bozeman, MT; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
